Make it personal: answer a few short questions first.

How to find a therapist

There's no single overview of all psychologists and their waiting times. These places do help. Pick a few practices, and contact three to five of them.

Start with the practices on our own map, already filtered on your answers. Then search further below. Practices on our map

  1. LVVP: find a practitioner

Independent psychologists and psychotherapists who are members of the LVVP, a Dutch professional association. The site is in Dutch.

    1. Under ‘Zoek op postcode/plaats’, enter your town or postcode and choose a radius.
    2. Under ‘Cliëntcategorieën’ (client groups), choose ‘Volwassenen’ (adults).

You can't filter on online sessions, insurer or waiting time here. Ask the practice.

  2. Your health insurer's search tool

The website of your health insurer has a search tool (zorgzoeker). Search for ‘psycholoog’ or ‘ggz’ near you. It shows which practices have a contract with your insurer, and often their waiting times too.

  3. ZorgkaartNederland

Search for a psychologist and filter on place (‘Plaats’) and specialism (‘Specialisme’). You can also read reviews from clients. The site is in Dutch.

  4. NIP: find a psychologist

The Dutch Association of Psychologists. Search by town or postcode and distance.

  5. Our map

Practices, mental health institutions and walk-in places near you, with what they say on their own website about what they help with and how long you wait. Walk-in places often need no referral.

On a practice's website, look for

  • Experience with what you're looking for help with
  • The languages they speak
  • Whether they offer online sessions
  • Their waiting times: practices must publish these on their website
  • Whether they have a contract with your insurer
